What is hot foil printing?

Also known as hot foil stamping, hot foil blocking or gold leaf print, it is a highly attractive and permanent type of printing using metallic coloured foils instead of ink and can be applied to a variety of flat substrates such as card, paper, leather and plastics. The reflective properties of the foil produces stunning effects resulting in a prestigious end product. Gold block print was originally developed by ancient monks as a way of decorating and enhancing the covers of the books they painstakingly produced by hand.
